Laura Schweibold
Marine and Coastal Sciences (IUEM)
Out-going mobility in
Australia (Institute for marine and antarctic studies)

An internship abroad is a great experience, both professionallyand personally. During my 5-months trip to Tasmania, I had to adapt myself to a different research environment, which was very stimulating, because the fact of leaving my comfort zone allowed me to gain in spirit of initiative and in independence while greatly improving my communication capacities by the forced practice of a foreign language. Moreover, arriving in a country where nobody know us make us open ourselves to others and allow us to discover new cultures and to share our own. I can say without hesitation that this trip is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I once again thank LabexMER for supporting me in this project.

Out-going mobility in New- Zealand
(IUniversity of Otago)

My internship in New Zealand was an awesome professional and personal experience. I am very grateful to the LabexMER because this internship would never have been possible without the LabexMER grant. I have improved my English, became more autonomous and met international researchers. Thanks to my internship I got a PhD position abroad after my master degree.

Julia Dusaucy
Master Biotechnologie (UBS)

Out-going mobility in Norway
(The University Centre in Svalbard)

It was just a dream… Nine weeks in the Arctic studuying a microalgua on scientific boats or in the lab. A rewarding experience: faculty to adapt (midnight sun), security (polar bear guard), organisation, independence but also patience and tenacity. Living on this archipelago, isolated from the world, allowed me to discover a new culture, welcoming residents despite extreme living conditions. I would like to thank LabexMER for supporting me in this unforgettable project !

Laure de Gaalon                      Expertise and Management of Coastal Environment  (IUEM)                             Out-going mobility in Chili (Regional Government of Los Lagos)

Conducting a stakeholder analysis within a Land Use Plan (Regional Planning Scheme) has been a challenging exercise. This allowed me to discover a maritime region that I did not know, to confront myself with different environments, perspectives and stakes. The interviews were very formative and humanly enriching. The assimilation of regional realities has constituted continued work and an effort of projection and understanding. Far from French realities and issues, the Lakes region is very diverse and faces many difficulties, involving a multitudes of actors and diverse and often conflicting interests. The issues that cross the territory are numerous and in most cases associated with land use confilts. The extremely recent implementation of regional planning schemes and territorial planning in general is an additional challenge. The incomplete process of decentralization at the national level contributes to political and administrative instability, as well as political, personal and economic conflicts. These factors have been perceptible, although difficult to assimilate, throughout the internship.

Anne Boulet                            Biological and Marine Sciences (IUEM)                                             Out-going mobility in New Zealand (NIWA Institute)

This internship was without any doubt the most interesting and rewarding experience that I have made during university. In addition to discover a new country, I also had the occasion to discover a working environment completely different than the one that I know in France. My work was all the more fascinating by the strong issues linked to my results. More than the professional meetings that made my professional network stronger, I also met a lot of people during my free time. This is thanks to all these meetings that I discovered in a lot of ways New Zealand, from the most traditional part to the most modern, allowing me to bring back with me amazing memories from this experience.
